One of pop culture's darkest couples is no more — Marilyn Manson and actress Rose McGowan have broken off their two-year engagement. "There is great love, but our lifestyle difference is, unfortunately, even greater," McGowan said in a statement released Thursday (January 18) by her representatives.
In February of '99, McGowan told MTV News that Manson had popped the question by candlelight while she was in the bathtub.
The couple last appeared together on camera at MTV's New Year's Eve party, where McGowan rocked out to Manson's performance. She did not accompany him to the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on January 8, as she was in Chicago shooting her new movie, "Monkey Bone," with Brendan Fraser.
Manson's representatives declined to comment on the split.
