The usually tour-shy Tom Waits has just added a four-night New York City stand to his upcoming string of East Coast dates to support his critically-acclaimed new album, "Mule Variations."
Set for the Beacon Theater in late September, the NYC shows will mark the first time Waits has performed in Gotham City in almost 12 years. The gravelly-throated troubadour, who can be currently seen in the film "Mystery Men," plans to cap off his New York appearances by performing on the "Late Show with David Letterman" on September 27. As we previously reported (see "Tom Waits Plans U.S. Tour, Rolls Out New Video"), Waits will kick off the East Coast Tour on August 23 in Toronto, before traveling to Chicago and Minneapolis. There are also talks that Waits will add some Boston dates to the new itinerary. In June, Waits staged several shows in Los Angeles and Oakland, California to celebrate the release of "Mule Variations," which debuted in the Top 30 of Billboard's Pop Albums chart. Fans who can't get enough of Waits should be on the lookout for an upcoming Jack Kerouac tribute album, "Jack Kerouac Reads On The Road," which will feature Waits and Primus collaborating on "On The Road." Waits, who has often collaborated with Primus, will also be appearing on that group's upcoming album as well (see "Primus Enlists Fred Durst, James Hetfield, Tom Morello, Others For New Album").
