Tonic will take a break from working on its new album next week to travel to Austin, Texas on August 9 to play a "Welcome Home" concert honoring local cyclist and recent Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong.

Armstrong is only the second American to win the 2,292 mile Tour de France, finishing the 20-stage race with a time of 91 hours, 32 minutes, and 16 seconds -- outpacing his nearest competitor by more than seven minutes. Greg LeMond is the only other American to win the Tour, taking the title in 1986, 1989, and 1990.

The event is being held at the city's Auditorium Shores, and it marks the second time that Tonic will have come out in support for Armstrong. The band previously played a "Concert for the Roses" to benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation back in 1998. Armstrong, a testicular cancer survivor, organized the non-profit charity dedicated to fighting urologic cancer through education, awareness, and research.

After playing the concert, Tonic will presumably return to work on its next LP, the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 1997's "Lemon Parade" which the band had been recording in refurbished Kingsway Studios in New Orleans (see "Tonic Preps New Album As 'American Pie' Single Gains Steam").
