August 22 [10:00 EDT] -- England's masters of moody melancholia Tindersticks are back with a new album called "Curtains," [600k QuickTime video]which features duet cameos by actresses Isabella Rossellini and Anne Magnuson.
Of course, the album also boasts a slew of heartbroken laments, somewhat in the manner of such veteran gloom merchants as Nick Cave and Barry Adamson.
"Probably listen to the first album, and I think so many influences are really obvious," Tindersticks singer Stuart Staples says of those comparisons. "They're obviously rock singers. Obviously the Velvet Underground, you know. It's like the longer time goes on, the more you find out what you're about. It's about losing things to get better, rather than gaining things. Things just kind of live with you... In a way with those people you mentioned, they help, give a lot in an attitude way."
Tindersticks will take those influences on the road with them on a U.S. tour which starts in October.
