Americans are about to get their first taste of former Brit boyband star Robbie Williams.
The ex-Take That singer, currently the top male solo artist in the U.K., paid a visit to Los Angeles late last week and showcased for music industry executives, media and fellow performers including Tricky and Cypress Hill's DJ Muggs at a small Hollywood bar called the Lucky Seven. He and his group also performed at the Capitol Records offices during his short stay.
The former "bad boy" teen idol, now 24, is enjoying a successful and apparently less rowdy solo career after a rocky rise and fall with Take That. This week sees two Williams albums in the UK Top 10. Last week he took a record six nominations at the annual Grammy-equivalent Brit Awards breaking a record held by Oasis; the previous week, he topped the year-end Melody Maker magazine poll.
On this side of the water, however, he's probably better known as the boyfriend of All Saints star Nicole Appleton. Although the couple did separate for a time last year (see "All Saints' Nicole Appleton Splits With Take That's Robbie Williams"), they've since reconciled.
Williams will be releasing his as-yet untitled American debut most likely May 4. The album will consist of tracks from his two previous U.K. releases, "Life Through a Lens," and "I've Been Expecting You." The first single, ""Millennium," is due as early as March.
