Matthew Sweet fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of his next album, "In Reverse," due in stores on October 12. However, if one more weekend without Sweet's latest music is too much to bear, you're in luck: the singer's Web site, at www.matthewsweet.com, launches on Friday, October 8, and the entire album will be available for streaming in the RealAudio format.
If you plan on checking out the album online, you should make sure your computer's sound system is up to snuff, as "In Reverse" sees Sweet experimenting with a bigger sound than he has used in the past. Many of his previous albums use a traditional "rock" sound made by two guitars, bass, keyboards and drums, this time around Sweet utilized a technique that echoes Phil Spector's "Wall Of Sound." "If Time Permits," "I Should Have Never Let You Know," "Worse To Live" and the nine-and-half minute "Thunderstorm," are among the tracks that feature Sweet's large studio ensemble, which includes a multitude of electric and acoustic guitarists and bass players, pianists, drummers, percussionists, horn players and a theremin player. (see "Matthew Sweet Returns With 'In Reverse'"). Sweet will be hitting the road to promote the album, although probably with a more manageably sized backing band.
