After issuing its "Live" concert record on Sub Pop last year, Seattle emo-core band Sunny Day Real Estate has wrapped work on its fourth studio album, titled "The Rising Tide," due out on Time Bomb Recordings on June 20.
"The Rising Tide" will mark SDRE's second album since reforming in late 1997 after a two-year hiatus, during which two of its members, bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith, joined the Foo Fighters. In 1998, the band released the critically acclaimed "How It Feels To Be Something On," featuring the reunion of Goldsmith, guitarist Dan Hoerner, and lead singer Jeremy Enigk (see "Sunny Day Real Estate Talks About The 'Emo-Core' Tag"). That same lineup recorded the new album with producer Lou Giordano at sessions held late last year at Dreamland Studios in Woodstock, New York and mixed earlier this year at the Warehouse in Vancouver, British Columbia. "I thought it was really important for this album to have color and depth," Enigk explained in a statement. "In the past, we've always gone into the studio with only four parts: vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. This time we concentrated on writing cool songs, took a little more time to explore and dug a little deeper." As a preview of "The Rising Tide," Sunny Day Real Estate has made a demo version of "The Ocean," a new track slated for the new record, available as a free MP3 download at the band's official Web site, located at www.sunnydayrealestate.com.
