SR-71's debut single, "Right Now," is currently soaring up the alternative radio charts, and beginning on Thursday in Atlanta, the Baltimore band will hit the road with Stroke 9 for a month-long joint tour.
"Right Now" was the last song SR-71 recorded for its new album, "Now You See Inside," although the band admits that it wasn't sure about the track until it decided to rev up the tempo.
"Well, the funny thing about 'Right Now' is that it was the last song we recorded and the first song we released," SR-71 vocalist-guitarist Mitch Allan told MTV News. "We actually finished the original ten songs and then went back and recorded 'Right Now.' It was written during the recording of ['Now You See Inside'].
"'This is not right,'" interjected bassist Jeff Reid.
"Yeah. 'This is wrong,'" Allan agreed.
"And we walked away from it a while," Reid said.
"We had to walk away," Allan continued.
"That song wrote itself, in a different key at a slower tempo," Allan said, "and we had no idea that it was wrong, because when a song does that, like I said, you usually think it's finished. As time went on, we realized that it didn't unmask itself.
"Right Here" is also being used in the TV advertisements for "Loser," the new film starring Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari, due to arrive on screens on July 21.
