North Carolina's Squirrel Nut Zippers, who found a mass audience for their vintage self-described "hot jazz" with the hit "Hell," are ready to deliver a new album and two new videos.
The band will deliver their third studio album, "Perenial Favorites," this summer, and will preceed it with the release of the album's first single, "The Suits Are Picking Up The Bill," which will hit radio on July 4. The Zippers once again teamed with director Norwood Cheek (the man behind the videos for "Hell" [1.3MB QuickTime] and "Put A Lid On It") for a clip for the song.
The band also already lined up the album's second single, "The Ghost of Stephen Foster," and has tapped the animators behind "The Simpsons" to turn in a Betty Boop-style animated clip for the song.
The Zippers plan to road test the new material with a string of appearances at jazz and rock festivals this summer, and plans to take over New York City's Kit Kat Klub for one night near the release of the album. The venue, which usually hosts performances of "Cabaret," will relinquished the stage to the Zippers for the evening.
