It was announced over the weekend that Bruce Springsteen's father, Douglas Springsteen, had died at age 73 on April 26 in Belmont, California.

No cause of death was announced.

The elder Springsteen, who held a series of blue collar jobs while raising Bruce and his two sisters, inspired a number of his son's songs such as "Adam Raised A Cane," and "Independence Day."

Springsteen issued a statement saying, "I feel lucky to have been so close to my dad, as I became a man and a father myself."
