Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kicked off their first tour in over ten years last Friday in Barcelona, Spain, playing in front of a sold-out crowd of 20,000 at the city's Palau Sant Jordi venue.
The nearly three-hour show sampled material covering the full spectrum of Springsteen's 25-year career, from the fist-waiving anthems of "Badlands" and "Thunder Road" to the brand new "Land of Hopes and Dreams," which closed the show. The lineup of the E Street Band featured all the usual suspects, including saxman Clarence Clemons, original guitarist Steve Van Zandt (who is currently on hiatus from his mobster role in the HB0 series "The Sopranos"), and drummer Max Weinberg (who is also on break from his "Late Night With Conan O' Brien" band duties). Springsteen is expected to bring his Americana-bred rock and roll to these shores in July, although no dates have been announced. However, a source has told MTV News that there is talk of a 16- or 17-date stand at the Continental Airlines Arena in the Boss' home turf of New Jersey. "18 Tracks," a single-CD compilation of selected material from Bruce Springsteen's "Tracks" box set, arrives in stores this week.
