Sponge has a new album slated to drop April 13 named "New Pop Sunday." The album will be the Detroit-based band's first record since 1996's "Wax Ecstatic." The group, which includes singer Vinnie Dombroski, guitarists Mike Cross and Joey Mazzola, bassist Tim Cross and drummer Charlie Grover, made its debut in 1994 with "Rotting Pinata" on Columbia, but are now signed to the BMG-distributed Beyond label (see "Sponge Returning To Form").

Beyond reports that song titles for the new record include "My Lackluster Love," "Polyanna," "Live Here Without You," "1000 Times," "All American World," "Radio Prayer Line," "New Pop Sunday," "Planet Girls," "When You're on Fire Baby, Roll," "Disconnected" and "Lucky."

The record was produced by various configurations of Tim Patalan, Kevin Shirley and the band themselves. Palatan produced their two previous efforts while Shirley is best known for current albums by Silverchair and Aerosmith.

Sponge is booked to tour the States during April and May. A label spokesperson says to expect an official announcement shortly.

Meanwhile the band will be joining label mates Blondie at the House of Blues in Las Vegas March 10, and the show will also be available as a webcast on the House of Blues website. Cyber savvy fans can watch the performance live on video with either the RealPlayer or the Windows Media Player at 9 PM Pacific time at www.hob.com.
