Even though they've only released two albums -- and nothing new since 1997's "Spiceworld" -- the Spice Girls have been selected as the winners of this year's Brit Award for lifetime achievement.

The Brit Awards will be presented on March 3 during a ceremony at Earl's Court in London, and MTV Europe reports that both the Spice Girls and former member Geri Halliwell plan to perform at the show.

It wasn't immediately known if Halliwell would join the remaining four Spice Girls to receive the award, although a press announcement from the "Girl Power" group seemed to suggest that they were hoping to mend fences with the former Ginger Spice for the event.

"We are overjoyed to have been asked to accept this award," the Spice Girls said in a statement. "We are still young and have, we hope, many more years to enjoy being part of the great British music scene. Spice Girls started out as five and we feel this award is in recognition of the great achievements of all five."

Past winners of the lifetime achievement award (honoring outstanding contribution to British music) have included such music luminaries as The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Bee Gees, and Eurythmics.

The Brit Awards are considered to be the U.K. equivalent of the Grammy Awards and are decided on annually by 1,000 representatives of the British music industry.
