August 22 [10:00 EDT] -- In an age when Marilyn Manson's ghoulish theatrics are considered old hat by many, how does a new band grab some attention?
Well, you could commandeer a school bus a la the Partridge Family, drive to the world's largest ball of twine, and play your songs for anyone that will listen.
The New Hampshire band Sonic Joyride is currently criss-crossing the U.S. in a converted school bus equipped with a mobile stage, a sound system, video screen, recording studio, and electricity generator.
The New Hampshire band Sonic Joyride has apparently realized that if you can't get the people to come to you, then you should head out and find the people.
The group has redefined the notion of a "tour bus" by traveling around in a converted school bus equipped with a mobile stage, a sound system, video screen, recording studio, and electricity generator.
The group is using this eye-catching vehicle to promote its new album, "Bazaar," by pulling over and performing at various roadside attractions across the country such as the world's largest bug in Providence, Rhode Island.
"We spent a lot of time outfitting the bus," Sonic Joyride's Chris Hobler explained. "We've got a 2000-watt sound system mounted in the belly... and the stage pops up. We've got a video screen over here, which we're gonna be doing some... slides on, and all the gear here, the drum kit and everything, is permanently mounted, so it only take us about five minutes to set up and get playing." Sonic Joyride will perform next Monday at the world's largest ball of twine in Cawker City, Kansas, and on August 30 at the world's largest thermometer in Baker, California.
