The Smashing Pumpkins will be touring Europe in January, according to the usually reliable (but unofficial) Smashing Pumpkins Internet Fan Club.
The Web site lists tour dates beginning January 7 in Stockholm, Sweden and continuing through to January 24 in Utrecht, Holland. The venues appear to be small theatres; the Munich concert is at the 900-seat Muffathalle, which hosts classical and operatic performances as well as the odd rock concert, while the London performance is booked for the Dominion Theatre, which is currently housing the musical production "Beauty And The Beast." A publicity spokesperson for the Pumpkins could not confirm any dates; however, European media sources told MTV News that Virgin Records in Europe is scheduling in-person band interviews for cities and days that correlate with the rumored performances. A band rep also confirmed the addition of former Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur to the Pumpkins lineup, although it wasn't clear if her involvement would extend beyond the expected world tour in support of the new Smashing Pumpkins album. Meanwhile, the U.S. branch of the label staged an exclusive listening party at the Whiskey Bar in New York City on Friday, November 19, to air the unnamed record for company personnel and a handful of key music media. The band members didn't attend the function. The media reaction to the record seemed favorable. "It's a good album," K-ROCK New York Music Director Mike Peer told MTV News. "I may not have heard it all," he added, "but what I heard was a rock album. It's nothing like 'Ava Adore,' '1979,' or 'Thirty Three,' it's 'Bullet With Butterfly Wings,' 'Cherub Rock,' or 'Today.' It rocks." The CD is scheduled for release February 29. The European tour dates, according to the SPIFC, are as follows:- 1/7 - Stockholm, Sweden @ Cirkus
