Silverchair now has an album title, and they've booked their first gig in over year.
The band has named their new record "Neon Ballroom." The project, recorded over a two month period by producer Nick Launay (Semisonic, Girls Against Boys) in Sydney, Australia, is scheduled for release March 2.
As previously reported by MTV News (see "Silverchair Collaborates With 'Shine' Pianist"), the album features Shine pianist David Helfgott on one track, as well as a revamped version of their Spawn soundtrack contribution (with Vitro), now called "Spawn Again."
According to a spokesperson for Epic, the final track listing is not yet complete, thus it's possible that the band's contribution to the ever-pending Clash tribute album may also appear on "Neon Ballroom." The group had previously said that it the Clash tribute didn't get released before their own album, they may release it themselves. That tribute is now delayed until sometime next year (see "Afghan Whigs Cut Songs For Lennon, Clash Tribute Albums").
On the live front, Silverchair has just announced their first show since December 20, 1997. The band will be performing at the Peaches'n'Cream festival on Saturday January 23 in their native Australia. The bill includes a number of Australian acts including the Superjesus. They're still working on a tour schedule for the Spring. We'll keep you updated.
