Sure, resurrecting a jump blues classic that also happens to be prominently featured in a national ad campaign seems like a clever marketing ploy, but Brian Setzer claims his Orchestra's breakthrough hit almost didn't make it onto his album.
"Cutting additional songs for the album, that happens and yeah, that was one of those songs," Brian Setzer told MTV News recently of his band's cover of the Louis Prima classic "Jump Jive An' Wail."
In fact, Setzer may strike gold with two of the afterthoughts on his "Dirty Boogie" album. In addition to tacking on their cover "Jump Jive An' Wail" (long a favorite of the Brian Setzer Orchestra's live set), Setzer also saw his duet with No Doubt's Gwen Stefani find its way onto the album late in the game.
"The other song that I cut that was a late addition was a song called 'You're The Boss' that I sang with Gwen Stefani," Setzer added. "It's just like after you sit back and make a record you think, 'What does it need? What could I use on this record that's not on there?' And one of them was a duet, and one of them was just sort of a fun jump blues song that I turned into a Brian Setzer Orchestra song." [28.8 RealVideo]
Setzer is planning to take those tracks, as well as others from his three albums with the Brian Setzer Orchestra, on the road this fall. No dates have been lined up yet, but we'll keep you posted.
