The Brazilian hard rock band's former vocalist, Max Cavalera, announced the name of his new group, Soulfly, on a French television program last night (January 21). His estranged bandmates, meanwhile, announced in a press release that they have new management, a new record planned for the summer and that they are actively seeking a replacement singer.

Cavalera is currently in England mastering his new album, "Eye For An Eye," which will be released under the group name Soulfly on Roadrunner Records in April, preceded by a single in March. The tracks were produced by Ross Robinson (Sepultura's "ROOTS," both Korn albums) in California and mixed by Andy Wallace (Sepultura, Slayer, Faith No More) in New York. Soulfly includes American Roy Mayorga (drums) and Brazilians Marcelo Dias (bass) and Lucio Maia (guitar).

Cavalera has also been sitting in on some shows with the Deftones who are on a tour of Europe. The Deftones were friends of his stepson, Dana Wells, who died in a traffic accident in Phoenix a year and a half ago. Cavalera had previously teamed up with the band to record a song written for Wells, "Head Up," which was featured on the Deftones album released this past October. They performed it together Wednesday night on French TV's Canal Plus. Cavalera emotionally dedicated both the song and his new band name to Wells.

Sepultura split apart shortly after Wells' death. He was the son of Max Cavalera's wife Gloria, who also managed the band, and it was her firing in December of 1996 that caused Cavalera's departure. The group continues as Sepultura with remaining members Igor Cavalera (brother to Max) on drums, Andreas Kisser on guitar and Paulo Jr. on bass.
