Sepultura has tapped Derrick Greene as the band's new vocalist, filling the void left open by the departure of founding member and vocalist Max Cavalera last year.

The spilt with Cavalera was especially difficult for the Brazilian heavy metal group, as it placed Max Cavalera in opposition with brother Igor Cavalera, with whom he helped found the band in 1984.

Greene, whose past credits include such bands as Outface, whose members have since turned up in Filter and CIV, will provide his brand of gravel-throated death moans for the band's new record, entitled "Against," which is due out in the fall.

Despite the absence of a singer, Sepultura has been working on the follow-up to 1997's "Blood Rooted" with several producers, and the new album will feature drum and rhythm tracks recorded in Brazil and Japan.

According to a spokesperson for the group, the band auditioned and jammed with several prospective vocalists, and guitarist Andreas Kisser had reportedly taken up vocal duties at one point, before selecting Greene last month. The band delayed making any official announcement while Sepultura continued to rehearse with the new singer.
