September 4 [16:30 EDT] -- It was a bit of a rocky ride but veteran dance divas Salt-N-Pepa return in October with a new CD called "Brand New" almost four years after the release of their last full length effort, "Very Necessary."
The new record has been reconfigured and/or rescheduled several times over the course of the year.
The first single, "R U Ready," finally made its media debut in August at a preview party but that same week the band's label, Red Ant, and distributor, Alliance, filed for bankruptcy. There's varying reports as to how the label has managed to survive the business problems and exactly which companies are behind this record, but the single will be released September 23 with the album on the slate for October 21.
"Brand New" features guests including Sheryl Crow, Queen Latifah and gospel sensation Kirk Franklin.
Meanwhile the trio's Spinderella (a/k/a Dee Dee Roper) will be releasing a solo effort 1998 on Jireh Records, a label owned by Cheryl "Salt" James and Sandra "Pepa" Denton.
