On Tuesday night, the Red Hot Chili Peppers were on top of the world.
More accurately, they were at the Top Of The World, the venue located on the 107th floor of New York City's World Trade Center. The band was performing an intimate show for roughly 250 enthusiastic contest winners, with a select few fan club members thrown in for good measure. The event was held in conjunction with radio station WXRK (K-ROCK) (see "Red Hot Chili Peppers Take New Single To Top Of The World"). Anthony Kiedis, a newly pink-haired Flea, Chad Smith, and John Frusciante broke out hits from the band's 15-year-plus career, bringing back memories of when the band actually played gigs that size. "We did a whole bunch of tours where we played places this small," Kiedis told MTV News at the event, "I'd like to say that we played a laundromat one time, but that wasn't us. It was someone else," he added. "This small, this tall. This is gonna be a free-for-all." [RealVideo] The Red Hot Chili Peppers launch their European tour on Friday in Helsinki, Finland. On that same day, Flea's leading-man debut in the independent film "Liar's Poker" will begin its run on an L.A. screen (see "Flea Takes The Lead In 'Liar's Poker'").
