R.E.M. told MTV News not long ago that their next album would most likely be due out this Fall. Now the band's management has told "Addicted To Noise" that their next album, the first since Bill Berry departed, will be out in October.
R.E.M.'s camp told MTV News that the new album still sounds like R.E.M., yet it is also different from everything they've done before. When the band tours this Fall, it will probably, but not positively, be with Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin, who plays on much of the new album.
In addition to the new album, Michael Stipe has a new photo book called "2xIntro: On The Road With Patti Smith," which documents Patti Smith's 1995 tour on which Stipe rode along.
The book also contains text from those inspired by Smith's work, such as the late great writer William S. Burroughs, musician Tom Verlaine, and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon as well as Stipe.
Look for "2xIntro" in bookstores in April.
