The wire service, citing L.A.P.D. reports, says that 36-year old Darryl Cortez Reed was shot twice by a gunman in the family room of Quik's suburban Woodland Hills home. The Times says Quik was in the house at the time of the incident, but not in the same room. His nephew, Thaddeus Demetrius Davis, fled the scene but was arrested nearby after a brief foot pursuit and is currently being held on $1 million bail.
Police believe the shooting was the result of a longstanding rivalry between the two men. Reed had been a friend of the rapper's since childhood.
Quik, who's real name is Dante Blake, is a Compton-bred rapper who records for the Profile label.
