June 4 [12:00 EDT] -- Rockabilly legend Carl Perkins is reportedly in stable condition after undergoing a series of tests at a Memphis hospital.
Reuters news service reports that Perkins, who penned the multi-million selling track "Blue Suede Shoes," entered Memphis' Baptist Memorial Hospital on Sunday for a series of tests, while local newscasts said that doctors were examining a blocked carotid artery.
Perkins, along with Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash, helped build the framework of rock and roll with a series of recordings on Sam Phillips' storied Memphis label, Sun Records.
A 1987 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Perkins penned songs for the likes of the Beatles, Patsy Cline, Rick Nelson, Dolly Parton, and of course, Presley. A performer in his own right, Perkins 1956 recording of "Blues Suede Shoes" has actually outsold the version that the King recorded later that same year.
