Hoping to build on the grassroots following the band has amassed, Los Angeles disco death metallers Static-X recently hooked up with an accomplished collaborator for its debut video.
The group, which describes its unique sonic assault as "rhythmic trancecore," teamed up with Mick Olszewski (whose credentials include work as an animator on videos for Tool) to shoot a clip for "Push It," the first single from the band's debut album, "Wisconsin Death Trip." "It's a pretty cool process," drummer Ken Jay added. "You get to learn a lot about filmmaking and direction, but after 12 hours of playing the same song, I'd rather nail my toes to the floor for fun." [28.8 RealVideo] You should be able to see if it was worth the trouble when the group's video for "Push It" is wrapped up in a few weeks. The band's relentless sound, which critics frequently compare to Ministry and White Zombie, has already spawned a devoted fanbase. Static-X's debut album hit stores just three weeks ago, but the group has already become familiar to listeners of independent hard rock radio stations and has inspired more than 20 fan-produced websites. In addition to releasing its first-ever video, Static-X will also up its visibility this summer with a run on the annual hard rock hoedown known as Ozzfest.
