Even though it's a week away, Monica is already gearing up for her appearance with Brandy at the MTV Video Music Awards, where the two will have the dual roles of both nominee and performer.
The two singers are scheduled to perform their hit song, "The Boy Is Mine" at the awards event being held at the Universal Amphitheater in Universal City, California. The video for the song has earned the pair two nominations in the categories of Video of the Year and Best R&B Video.
Backstage at the KMEL All Star Jam in San Francisco this past weekend, Monica talked with MTV News about her upcoming Video Music Awards duet with Brandy and their chances of bringing home a trophy.

Monica and Brandy will be sharing the MTV Video Music Awards stage with such acts as Madonna, Hole, Master P, the Backstreet Boys, Marilyn Manson, the Beastie Boys, the Dave Matthews Band and others when the show is broadcast live on Thursday, September 10, starting at 8 p.m.
