George Michael was officially charged with lewd conduct on Thursday after his arrest last week in a Beverly Hills park bathroom.

According to the Associated Press, Michael was alone when an undercover officer took him into custody, although police officials have refused to state what exactly prompted the singer's arrest.

As we previously reported (see "UPDATE: George Michael Arrested On Charges Of "Lewd" Behavior"), Michael was booked under his real name, Georgios Panayiotou, and released on $500 bail.

A few days later, Michael talked about both the incident and his sexuality in a frank and open interview with CNN (see "George Michael Discusses Arrest, Sexuality With CNN").

"I think having done something as stupid as that," Michael told CNN. "I want people to know that I feel stupid and I feel reckless and weak for having allowed my sexuality to be exposed this way, but I don't feel any shame whatsoever."

Michael still must appear in a Beverly Hills Municipal Court on May 5 where, as a first time offender, he will probably be sentenced to a limited period of probation, a small fine and community service.
