If Republican George W. Bush is officially declared the next president, don't expect Marilyn Manson to raise hell over it.
"I think that art, and especially music, thrives under conservative rule," Manson told MTV News' Kurt Loder. "I think that Bill Clinton's attempt to be friends with younger people, to come on MTV, it did something to the rebellion barometer."
Although he wouldn't say whether he voted, Manson told Talk magazine that he would pick Bush if he had to.
But if Bush wins, Less Than Jake drummer Vinnie plans to pin the blame squarely on Green Party candidate Ralph Nader.
"Even though I think it's a good idea for a three-party system to initiate change in the present for the future, you have to be realistic and go with the two parties," said Vinnie, who voted for Democrat Al Gore by absentee ballot. "I'm gonna go out on a limb and say [Nader's candidacy will prevent Gore from winning]."
Vinnie is from Gainesville, Florida the state that will decide the winner. As of Thursday (November 16), the Associated Press' unofficial vote count showed Bush ahead of Gore by 300 votes in the state. Nader received nearly 97,000 votes in the November 7 election.
Vinnie said he is skeptical about the accuracy of a recount, saying that he'd rather see a revote. "That's the only way you'll know for sure."
"Two pro-business, pro-death penalty candidates who agree on most of the issues divide the country right down the middle," said Morello, who voted for Nader. "And 48 percent abstained because they still felt that voting didn't matter, [that] they weren't represented by either candidate."
According to CNN, Gore led Bush nationally by 221,987 votes as of Thursday, with Florida, New Mexico and Oregon yet to be decided. Gore has 255 electoral votes to Bush's 246; with 270 required for election. Florida has 25 electoral votes, New New Mexico has five and Oregon has seven.
"Nader provided an alternative. You should in an election be able to express your will, not just settle for one or two crappy candidates," said Morello. "I walked out of the ballot box for the first time in a long time feeling good about myself."
