In an age of sonic experimentation, it's not easy to sound fresh.
However, in the current been-there-done-that pop music climate, the Lo-Fidelity Allstars's meld of rock and DJ culture is rising above the fray... perhaps not for being first, but at least for being better.
The English group's debut album, "How To Operate With A Blown Mind," has earned raves from critics, who hail it as a "raucous pastiche of hip hop beats, funk bass lines, disco hedonism, and postpunk attitude" and the place "where rock and turntablism truly meet."
Europe has already gotten with the program, and now the group has set it sights on the States, where their single with Pigeonhead, "Battle Flag," is starting to pick up steam.
The Lo-Fi Allstars will try to take it to the next level with a Stateside tour next month, and took some time to chat with MTV News about playing to the States. They also talked about their penchant for setting turntables on fire, the troubles they faced when sampling Prince, and the art of the remix. You can check out those topics, and much more, here in our MTV News Online feature, where they also talk about fusing rock and dance elements and their upcoming mix album.
Enjoy...
