Following its energetic performances at this summer's Tibetan Freedom Concert and Woodstock '99 festival, Live is gearing up for the release of its next album, "The Distance To Here," with the announcement of a North American tour.

About a month after the band plays a free concert (no doubt previewing new material) on August 21 at the Expo Site in Montreal, the band kicks off a 35-date tour on September 30 in Columbia, South Carolina.

The band is currently allowing fans to download "The Dolphin's Cry," the first single from the upcoming LP, on its official Web site at www.friendsoflive.com.

The new album is due out on October 5, and it reunites Live with producer (and former Talking Head) Jerry Harrison, who produced the band's first two albums, 1991's "Mental Jewelry" and 1994's "Throwing Copper" (see "Live Gets 'Happy,' Sets Release Date For Fourth LP"). For 1997's "Secret Samadhi," the band worked with Jay Healy.
