June 25 [14:00 EDT] -- Some 500 artists will descend on 20 venues in New York City as well as 40 other clubs around the world for this summer's Intel New York Music Festival.

This year, Intel takes over the sponsorship role for the festival that has fallen to other companies in past years (notably Apple), and will bring Better Than Ezra, Bettie Serveert, Combustible Edison, Cracker, Girls Vs Boys, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, Michael Penn, Space, Ween and many other artists together in New York City from July 16 - 19. The artists will inhabit noted New York haunts like CBGB's, the Knitting Factory, Brownies, Coney Island High, and the Mercury Lounge among others.

Online will be the next best thing to being there for the festival, as New York performances as well as sets from 40 venues across the globe will turn up on the Net as the festival plays a prime role in the Global Internet Gathering (at www.thegig.com). Users will find live cybercasts from the festival as well as background info on the bands performing, and upcoming festival gigs. In addition to capturing the action in New York, the website will also bring together artists and fans from Dublin, London, Toronto, Amsterdam, Paris, Zurich, Oslo, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

MTV's sibling M2 will also be lending a sponsorship hand to the festivities, and will be broadcasting VJ segments from select shows throughout the four-day event.
