The Los Angeles police lieutenant investigating last week's murder of Kurupt bodyguard Dwayne Dupree says that the shooting was no random drive-by.

Although the intended target or targets have yet to be identified, Lt. Al Michelena says that the incident, which left one man dead and two others wounded, seems to have come about because of individual conflict and is not rap-related.

As we reported earlier this month, Dupree was fatally shot and two others were wounded when two armed men fired at Los Angeles' Echo Sounds studio (see "Kurupt's Security Guard Killed, Two Others Injured In Studio Shooting").

Police say that leads remain hot, and Michelena and his five-man task force are putting their energies into this case. Although witnesses in the Dupree shooting are being less than cooperative, officers feel confident that the case will be solved.

Michelena says that the suspected gunmen are two African-American males and compares the lack of witnesses' help to a gang-related killing for which there is a code of silence or fear of retribution.
