Next Wednesday marks the 28th annual Earth Day, an observance begun by former Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, and while the event doesn't carry the visibility it used to, some notable figures from the world of music are marking it in their own ways.
Paula Cole and Chantal Kreviazuk will headline Boston's 5th annual "Earthfest" show April 25th, sponsored by WBOS radio at the Hatch Shell on the Charles River.
Kreviazuk, who also will have a song in the upcoming Bruce Willis-Liv Tyler movie "Armageddon," happens to be Canadian, and has at times been compared to such female artists as Joni Mitchell and Alanis Morissette, though the observations don't seem to rankle the singer in the least.
"I don't mind the Canadian singer thing," Kreviazuk said. "If someone says, wow, Joni Mitchell, Alanis Morissette, Celine Dion. That's great. [400k QuickTime] I think that everybody was in the shadow of Alanis for a while. On a Canadian level, I think that's terrific, because I do feel that Canada is such a rich, vast place, and I think it's part of what instills a Canadian characterisse." [500k QuickTime]
