Canadian songstress Chantal Kreviazuk has been tapped to perform at an anti-handgun benefit being held at the Cipriani nightclub in New York City on May 1.

The event is being sponsored by Handgun Control, a group that lobbies for increased handgun legislation on both the national and state level and will honor talk show host Rosie O' Donnell for her continued involvement with the anti-handgun movement.

Last month, Kreviazuk beat out Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette to win Best Female Artist at the Juno Awards (see "Alanis, BSB, Shania, Chantal Take Junos Home"), and her newest album, "Colour Moving And Still," will be issued in the U.S. this week via C2 Records.

Kreviazuk is perhaps best known here for her take on John Denver's classic "Leaving On A Jet Plane," which appeared on 1998's "Armageddon" soundtrack, as well as her covers of Randy Newman and Beatles songs for the TV shows "Dawson's Creek" and "Providence," respectively.

In Canada, "Colour Moving And Still" has already spawned two singles: "Dear Life" and "Before You."
