March 5 [10:00 EST] -- In hip-hop news, Washington D.C.'s DJ Kool has been rocking parties and go-go clubs along the east coast for the better part of two decades, but now he's a genuine radio star.

The career boost comes courtesy of his old-school-style hit "Let Me Clear My Throat" (QuickTime, 1.2MB), which was recorded live at Philadelphia's Bahama Bay nightclub.

Recently, Kool noted that "Let Me Clear My Throat," which features the rap classic "The 900 Number" as its main music bed, came about more or less by accident.

"I guess some of my greatest moments on record are some of my greatest mistakes," Kool told MTV News.

"In the example of 'Let Me Clear My Throat,' one night I'm in this night club, spinning this particular tune, this '900 Number' joint, and I was getting ready to say something to the crowd, i guess to motivate them one way or another. So instead of saying what I wanted to say, I coughed... I had a little response to that after that, and after I said my little response to what I had done, the first thing that came to my mind, was a line from the old Beastie Boys record, "Let Me Clear My Throat." (QuickTime, 2.3MB)

And so, a magical music moment was born.

DJ Kool's album, also titled "Let Me Clear My Throat," features an old-school re-mix of the song with rap legends Doug E. Fresh and Biz Markie contributing verses.
