August 27 [16:00 EDT] -- Kenickie frontwoman Lauren Laverne is recovering nicely from the illness that forced the cancellation of the band's highly anticipated U.S. tour, but don't expect to see her in your town any time soon.
While the band (which "NME" once called "Best new band in Britain by, ooh, only about a million miles") has played a few dates recently, including the annual Reading Festival, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. Records says Kenickie is by no means ready to hit the road.
According to the label, Laverne is not fully recovered, and will continue to rest at her home in London, and at her parents' home in Sunderland. The band will most likely not stage a U.S. tour this year, opting instead to work on new material for its next album.
Just as Kenickie was planning to bring its rattling pop to U.S. soil, the 19-year-old Laverne began suffering from a recurring kidney condition that first affected her in her childhood. While it was determined that Laverne's condition did not require surgery or medication, doctors did order her to rest, forcing the cancellation of the band's tour.
The illness has not totally sidelined Laverne. In addition to the few dates she has been able to play with her Kenickie counterparts, she also landed a role in a pilot for a BBC-4 television series.
