July 3 [14:00 EDT] -- After bringing an eco-friendly feel to Lollapalooza, Perry Farrell is taking time off from presiding over the summer tour to push awareness of toxic waste and dioxin poisoning.
Farrell and his band Porno For Pyros will first help the cause at a July 4 show at L.A.'s Opium Den and Theatre, along with Poe and Sparkler, with part of the proceeds going to Greenpeace.
Then, next Thursday afternoon, Farrell will join Porno, the British band James, Michelle Shocked and others, at a "Peace Rally" and concert in Lafayette Park, across from the White House.
The event, which starts at noon and runs till 3 p.m., is a protest against dioxin, which organizers describe as, "an invisible poison (that) hurts the poor, young and disenfranchised the most."
As we reported in May, Farrell has brought an environmental message to Lollapalooza this year, and has incorporated visual and performance art devoted to ecological themes into the festival's midway.
