December 24 [Updated 12:00 EDT] -- Despite reports from INXS' publicist, the producer of Michael Hutchence's solo album has told the BBC that the record will most likely be out next April and that it's very different from INXS. Andy Gill, a former member of the Gang of Four, had been working on the album with Hutchence on and off over the past year or more.

"Lyrically it's fairly autobiographical, but it isn't a bunch of pop songs." Gill told the news service. It is kind of a mature record."

Apparently, even prior to Hutchence's death, the plan had been to release the solo record once INXS's "Elegantly Wasted" had run its course. Others working on the self-financed project, which Hutchence had been recording casually between INXS commitments, had been Tim Simenon (Bomb The Bass) and studio guru Danny Saber. Several guest performers had also joined Hutchence in the various studios, but whether those tracks will be on the final result remain to be seen.

Gill said that the finished CD will contain 10 tracks and that Hutchence's manager was currently negotiating a label deal for the record.
