After capping of her appearance on Nickelodeon's "All That" Music & More Festival with a pair of Lilith Fair dates, Monica will take a break from the road in order to focus on her next project, an ABC-TV film titled "Angel of Mine," named after one of the singer's recent hit singles.
For the TV-film, which is being produced by singer Whitney Houston as a "Wonderful World of Disney" program, Monica will portray an aspiring teen singer whose career is helped out by a rock star-turned-guardian angel who died in the '70s, according to a report in "Variety." Based on the novel "Strut" by Bruce and Carol Hart, the TV-film is still considered to be in the early stages of preproduction and development, and the part of the angelic musician has yet to be cast. The new project will also allow Houston, who executive-produced the 1997 TV-film "Cinderella," which costarred Brandy, to work with the other half of the "The Boy is Mine" pair. Brandy and Monica shared a Grammy Award earlier this year for the track, which was named Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
