Irish DJ artist David Holmes came to New York to make his first album, but not in the way you might expect. He didn't come for the studios; he came for the streets.

Holmes traveled from his home in Belfast, Northern Ireland to the U.S. to explore the street sounds of Hell's Kitchen, the Bronx, and greater New York's plentiful noise quotient, for the tracks for "Let's Get Killed," the DJ's debut LP.

Holmes got what he was looking for and more, and told our colleagues at MTV Radio recently about how the street experience lead to the naming of the release.

"When we made it, it was a silly thing to do in a lot of ways. I mean, we're here to tell the tale. We made it! That's why the album is called 'Let's Get Killed,' 'cause we got chased by eight guys through the South Bronx who were after our expensive audio equipment." [1MB QuickTime]

Holmes and his associates escaped that day, and made two short trips in all to collect enough audio data for "Let's Get Killed." Holmes describes it, "It was a bit like fear and loathing in New York," alluding to Hunter S. Thompson's seminal gonzo journal "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas."

Holmes is a man of many talents. He has done a film score for a feature film, "Resurrection Man," as well as music for British television. He also won the award for "Best Essential Mix" at the Muzik Magazine Dance Awards last July.
