Hole frontwoman Courtney Love has reportedly been scrapped from appearing in the sci-fi flick "John Carpenter's Ghosts Of Mars" after sustaining an ankle injury while training for the film.

Producers are now scrambling to find a replacement for Love, who won't be able to recover in time to make the August 8 start date for the movie, according to "Variety."

Love was to play an interplanetary police officer named Melanie in the film, which is set some 175 years in the future and also stars Ice Cube, Jason Statham, and Pam Grier (see "Courtney Love Takes On 'Mars,' Bassist Search").

No word yet on who is being eyed to replace Love in "John Carpenter's Ghosts Of Mars," which is tentatively set to hit screens during the summer of 2001.

Despite missing out on "Mars," Love already has one completed film project, "Julie Johnson," in the can (see ).

Another Love movie, a dramatized biography of troubled writer William S. Burroughs titled "Beat," is awaiting a wide release after making the rounds at several film festivals, including Sundance, earlier this year.

Assuming she doesn't work in another movie in the next few weeks, Love will likely begin prepping for work on the next Hole record, which the band is slated to start recording in October, right after drummer Samantha Maloney finishes her stint playing with Mötley Crüe on that band's current tour (see "Mötley Crüe Taps Hole's Maloney For Temp Drum Slot").

No word yet on whether Hole plans to ink a deal with a record label or release its next record on the Internet only, as the band is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with its former label, Geffen Records (see "Courtney Love Vows To Find Online Home For Hole").

In June, Hole posted some 51 MP3 files of various live tracks, album outtakes, and b-sides on its official site at www.holemusic.com, including a demo version of "Asking For It" featuring backing vocals by the late Kurt Cobain.
