After recently wrapping up a short tour with the Roots, Goodie M.O.B. is preparing to release "Black Ice (Sky High)," as the next single from its critically-acclaimed new record, "Still Standing."
The song, which M.O.B. rapper Big Gipp laid down the basic track for in a single evening, reunites the group with fellow Southerners Outkast, who helped the M.O.B. record its 1995 debut, "Soul Food."
"It was a song that I did in one night," Gipp told the MTV Radio Network, "I was [in the studio], just there playin' around and then came the hook and a verse. It came out so good and everybody was like 'It's jammin'.'"
"Outkast was nearby working on their new album," Gipp added, describing the song's evolution, "and Big Boi and Andre came in and laid down two new verses. It's been a long time since we had worked with them, and it was good because they had helped the whole Goodie M.O.B. thing first come up."
As we previously reported (see ), the Atlanta-based group is one of the acts set to perform at the Vibe Live Black Music Month, which will also feature Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat, Jay-Z, Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz, among others, scheduled for June 11 through 13 at Disney World's Pleasure Island in Florida.
