Grammy Award-winning singer Lauryn Hill will play an exclusive show in New York City next week for 450 local kids as part of a special benefit for the singer's Refugee Project being sponsored by the AltaVista Company.
Hill's performance will be held at Irving Plaza on October 25 at 4 p.m., and AltaVista plans to broadcast the concert across the Internet as part of the launch of its New AltaVista Network. AltaVista will also donate $100,000 to the Refugee Project, an organization Hill founded in 1996 to help encourage positive social action by at-risk youths. "This Webcast will carry the inspirational message of the Refugee Project to millions of young people around the world: you must believe in yourself and strive for self-improvement," Hill wrote in a statement announcing the show. In other news, Hill is considering starring and producing an upcoming movie, entitled "Sauce," for New Line Cinema and the singer's own Black Market Films. The plot of "Sauce" supposedly details how the male and female descendants of two family-owned, rival barbecue companies fall for one another while attending cooking school. According to a spokesperson for New Line, Hill has agreed play the female romantic lead in "Sauce," which is expected to begin shooting early next year.
