August 26 [12:00 EDT] -- After disbanding in 1995, Sunny Day Real Estate are going to make another go of it.
The original Sunny Day line-up (bassist Nate Mendel, drummer William Goldsmith, vocalist/guitarist Jeremy Enigk, and guitarist Dan Hoerner) has re-formed to write new material for a third album, which should arrive in the spring of next year.
After SDRE folded its tent, Mendel and Goldsmith went on to join Dave Grohl and Pat Smear in the Foo Fighters. Goldsmith left the band earlier this year, but Mendel will continue to be a card-carrying Foo Fighter, even while re-joining his Sunny Day counterparts. In fact, all four Foo Fighters (Mendel, Grohl, Smear, and drummer Taylor Hawkins) will be present and accounted for when the band plays during MTV News' "Opening Act" special before this year's "Video Music Awards" broadcast.
While a Sunny Day Real Estate reunion means at least one more studio album from the band, any other plans for the group are still up in the air. The group has not yet decided if it will tour to support the album, or if it will return to the studio for any other future Sunny Day Real Estate projects.
And while Mendel remains a Foo Fighter, frontman Enigk is also looking forward to returning to his solo career after revisiting Sunny Day Real Estate.
