After drawing rave reviews for his first big screen project, "Being John Malkovich," director Spike Jonze will return to his video roots for "What's Up Fatlip," a solo clip from Pharcyde MC Derrick "Fatlip" Stewart.
Spike Jonze and Fatlip are currently shooting the video on location in Los Angeles, and Jonze is filming everything himself on a hand-held camera. With such a stripped down crew -- Fatlip is the only "actor" involved -- the clip for "What's Up Fatlip" is tentatively expected to be done by the end of next week. Jonze and Fatlip are no strangers to working with one another, as they previously collaborated on the video for Pharcyde's "Drop" single from the group's last album, 1995's "LabCabinCalifornia." "What's Up Fatlip" will be the first single from a "Prime Cuts: Volume One," a collection of new tracks and artists on the Delicious Vinyl roster, due out in March. Fatlip also plans to release his first solo record, titled "Revenge Of The Nerd," in mid-2000. As for Jonze, his "Being John Malkovich" is up for a Golden Globe award in the category of "Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy." "Malkovich" writer Charlie Kaufman has also been nominated for an award for "Best Screenplay - Motion Picture," and both Cameron Diaz and Catherine Keener are vying for the Globe for "Best Performance By An Actress In A Supporting Role In A Motion Picture." The 2000 Golden Globe Awards will be presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association on January 23 during a ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and broadcast live on NBC-TV at 8 p.m. (ET)-- David Basham
