DJ Norman Cook, a.k.a. Fatboy Slim, and his wife are expecting their first child on Christmas Eve, according to Reuters. Slim and his wife Zoe Ball, 29, have been trying to conceive a child since they were wed last August.
In early March 2000, Ball quit her job at England's Radio 1 Breakfast Show, and traveled with Cook to Venice, where they rarely left their hotel suite. "I'm incredibly happy," she said of the pregnancy during an interview with the U.K. newspaper "The Sun." "We are both over the moon and can't wait until Christmas."
The Brighton, England-born Cook started his career in music as a bassist in the English pop group The Housemartins. After a stint in the dub band Beats, International, he released dance singles under the names "Freakpower," "Pizzaman," and "Fried Funk Food."
Under his current moniker Fatboy Slim, the 36-year-old father-to-be released two critically acclaimed albums on the Astralwerks label: 1997's "Better Living Through Chemistry," and 1998's platinum-selling "You've Come a Long Way, Baby."
This year has already seen two releases of Fatboy Slim's past work. Astralwerks released the DJ's 1998 mix album "On The Floor At The Boutique" in the U.S.; the LP features a handful of Fatboy tracks alongside numbers by the Jungle Brothers and James Brown's sideman Maceo Parker, among others. The second, "The Fatboy Slim/Norman Cook Collection," compiled recordings from his earlier days in the techno genre and was released on the Hip-O label (see "Norman Cook's Pre-Fatboy Slim Work To See Release").
Vice President Al Gore, meanwhile, recently adopted Cook's hit "Praise You" as the unofficial campaign theme for his bid to become the next President of the United States.(See "Fatboy Slim On Gore's Use Of 'Praise You'")
Fatboy Slim's forthcoming studio album is scheduled for release by year's end on the Astralwerks label.
