Looks like Fatboy Slim has changed his mind about not playing any more U.S. dates for the rest of the year.

After spinning at a Manhattan nightclub last month in what was billed by publicists as his "final North American DJ appearance" of 2000, Fatboy Slim has now lined up five gigs in early November to promote his new LP, "Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars," which is due out on November 7.

For the performances, Slim (a.k.a. Norman Cook) will showcase the new material during lengthy sets to audiences in clubs and other intimate settings, rather than to the thousands he played to in theaters while touring behind 1998's "You've Come A Long Way, Baby."

"It got a bit out of hand," Cook explained,

"So, with promoting this album," he continued, "rather than try and put some big show together with lots of production and everything, I said, 'Let's just go back into clubs where I started.'... Rather than come on and do this superstar DJ set, I'll play for four hours in this little club and remember why I love doing this.'" [RealVideo]

Fatboy Slim also takes musical solace in the U.K. club scene on the new album, which features one track that pays homage to his DJ roots in the acid house scene of the late '80s and early '90s.

Cook said, "and my roots are club culture. There's one song on the album called 'Song For Shelter,' which is just an ode to house music.

"It's just [a song that says], 'This is why we do this. This is why we love clubs. This is why we love house music,' and there's a lot of that on the album. When I'm worried that I might have turned into a pop star, I always go back to the clubs and get back in the gutter where I belong." [RealVideo]
