March 4 [18:00 EST] -- Everclear's Art Alexakis has just finished mixing the follow-up to the band's million-selling "Sparkle And Fade" album, due this fall, and now he's planning a quick solo tour.
While mixing the new album in New York City, art stopped by to tell us his solo jaunt does not mean the end of Everclear. Rather Alexakis said it's all about a musician's hankering to play for the people.
"I just want to break the songs down to a really basic thing," Alexakis said. "I'm a singer songwriter, and I want to try and translate the songs. I think a lot of times people get caught up in the music, because the music is pretty powerful and big and heavy, and it's nice to strip them down and see if they still work, and I think they do. I think a good song will work no matter how you do it, you can do it on a synthesizer, you might not like it like that, but it's still a good song."
Alexakis hits the road for two weeks on March 28 at La Luna, in his hometown of Portland, Oregon. He'll do a warm-up date March 14 at the South By Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas. Here's how the rest of the tour looks:
