Everclear is proving that they've got staying power by making a video for their fourth single, "One Hit Wonder" off of their sophomore album "So Much For The Afterglow."

McG (the man behind clips for the Offspring, Barenaked Ladies, Korn, Fastball, and Smash Mouth) got a hold of the project after chasing Everclear frontman Art Alexakis down and pitching him on the idea of shooting the video as a game show, which depicts how some people come across their 15 minutes of fame.

Alexakis agreed, got super game show host Wink Martindale of "Tic Tac Dough" fame on board, and the video was shot earlier this week in Hollywood.

"I had the opportunity to speak with Art a little bit and we talked about just something in respect to 15 minutes of fame and 'One Hit Wonder' and just sort of disposable pop Americana culture," the director explained. "So we came up with this being a game show, which is a good metaphor, we think, for just a one hit wonder because this is as close as people are going to come to fame when they go on 'The Price Is Right,' or 'The Dating Game,' or 'The Joker's Wild.' You know, they have their moment in the sun, and then they're ushered out and it's a whole new set of contestants."

While on set at the Hollywood Center Studios, the group (clad in appropriately colorful suits) told us a bit more. Alexakis explained, "She basically goes to this game show and she wins an Airstream trailer, a million dollars, and..."

"Us," drummer Greg Eklund added.

"Every white trash girl's dream come true, and that's what it says on her very tight T-shirt, 'White Trash Girl,'" Alexakis said. "So it's keeping to our roots, even though this is looking pretty sell out. It's following in the motif... We wanted to, after the 'Father Of Mine' video, we wanted to do something fun, man. We wanted to do something sexy and fun and hip with the kids, right?"

"Right," bassist Craig Montoya agreed. [28.8 RealVideo]

Aside from shooting the video, Everclear is currently on hiatus as Alexakis is busy working on his solo album in his new home studio in Portland. After its release next year, the band plans to start work on their next Everclear album.
