Everclear frontman Art Alexakis is expected to appear in Austin Municipal Court on August 24 in order to face the misdemeanor charge of Simple Assault by Contact.

Alexakis is accused of pouring water over a 17-year-old female fan's head and throwing a water bottle at her while the band was performing at a free Coca-Cola promotional concert on July 31 at Austin Music Hall.

According to a police statement, the fan says that the alleged incident occurred because the bandmembers thought she had thrown a drink on the singer, which she claims she didn't do.

Everclear's touring guitarist, Brian Lehfeldt, has also been charged with the more serious crime of Assault with Injury, though police won't reveal the details of the incident as it is still under investigation.

Both Alexakis and Lehfeldt are expected to turn themselves in, and in Lehfeldt's case, a bond is likely to be issued in the amount of $6500. No word yet on when Lehfeldt is expected to appear in court.

A spokesperson for Everclear had no comment at press time.
